MINT Language Courses for Refugees
(MINT: Mathematics, Information Technology, Natural Sciences, Technology/Engineering Sciences)
The Modern Language Center (Zentraleinrichtung Moderne Sprachen, ZEMS) and the International Preparatory School (Studienkolleg) at the Technische Universität Berlin regularly offer accelerated language courses starting level B2 or C1 to prepare refugees for a degree program in a MINT subject. (MINT stands for mathematics, information technology, natural sciences, and technology/engineering sciences.)
The focus is on learning German as a language of study and research. At a later stage, this is complemented by relevant specialist language and terminology in mathematics and physics. A total of 24 hours of classes are given from Monday to Friday.
The course concludes with the German assessment test, which counts as proof of language skills for the application to the degree program.
Successful participants will also receive accompanying coaching/language courses at the ZEMS during their subsequent MINT courses of studies.
